MD Consultants’ Networking

Building Bridges in Healthcare: MD Consultants’ Networking Evening

The buzz of conversation, the clinking of glasses, and the unmistakable energy of colleagues reconnecting after years apart filled the Consort Bar at The Omni King Edward Hotel on September 11, 2025. For MD Consultants, this wasn’t just another evening on the calendar it was a long-awaited return to in-person networking, the first since the pandemic.

For years, our community of physicians, consultants, and healthcare leaders stayed connected virtually. Zoom calls and webinars bridged the gap, but nothing replaces the depth of face-to-face connections and story telling.

A Return to Connection

MD Consultants has always been more than a consulting firm it’s a community. Since its founding in 2009, the company has created a platform where physicians can extend their expertise beyond the clinic, shaping healthcare innovation, leadership, and strategy. This networking event was a celebration of that mission in action.

The evening brought together consultants from diverse specialties emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, and more. Some attendees were reconnecting with old friends; others were meeting for the first time, exploring new synergies and ideas. The casual, yet elegant setting of the Consort Bar encouraged exactly that: open dialogue, relaxed conversation, and the kind of professional relationship-building that MD Consultants has fostered for over a decade.

Honoring a Leader: Dr. Dominik Nowak

One of the evening’s highlights was the attendance of Dr. Dominik Nowak, past President of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). Widely respected for his leadership in physician advocacy and health policy, Dr. Nowak has long been an influential voice in Canadian healthcare.

His presence underscored the importance of gatherings like these not just as social events, but as catalysts for bigger conversations about the future of medicine. Dr. Nowak’s career has focused on building bridges between clinical practice, system leadership, and policy reform, making him a fitting honorary guest for an evening dedicated to connection and collaboration.

As he mingled with consultants, his contributions reminded everyone of the broader purpose behind events like this: physicians have the power not only to care for patients, but also to shape the healthcare system itself. Learn more about Dr. Nowak’s work.

The Consultants at the Core

Of course, no MD Consultants event would be complete without highlighting the leaders who continue to shape the organization itself. Among those in attendance were three of our distinguished partners:

  • Dr. Sameer Masood (Emergency Medicine) – As a co-founder of MD Consultants, Dr. Masood has been instrumental in growing the company into what it is today. His work as an academic emergency physician blends seamlessly with his passion for health technology and quality improvement. At the event, he shared insights on how digital solutions are changing the landscape of emergency care and beyond.
  • Dr. Jiayi Hu (Plastic Surgery) – Currently practicing in the Greater Toronto Area, Dr. Hu embodies the spirit of academic excellence and innovation. His perspective on the intersection of surgery, aesthetics, and patient outcomes sparked engaging discussions with attendees, many of whom were curious about the future of surgical practice in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
  • Dr. Manveen Puri (Emergency & Internal Medicine) – Balancing clinical practice with his role as a Medical Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Dr. Puri exemplifies leadership in action. His experience working in both civilian and military contexts provided a unique angle on resilience, adaptability, and the value of physician leadership in challenging circumstances.

These physicians are not only leaders in their fields but also mentors within the MD Consultants network, embodying the company’s mission to support professional growth across medicine.

Beyond a Social Gathering

What set this evening apart was that it wasn’t just about reconnecting after COVID—it was about moving forward. The conversations were forward-looking, driven by a shared curiosity about where healthcare is heading.

Healthcare Social Gathering

Some discussions centered on the role of technology—artificial intelligence, virtual care, and data-driven medicine—in shaping clinical decision-making. Others focused on the human side: how physicians can continue to lead with compassion, balance professional demands with personal well-being, and prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders.

For many attendees, the night was a reminder of why MD Consultants exists: to provide physicians with opportunities outside the traditional clinical pathway. Whether it’s consulting for startups, engaging in health policy, or exploring entrepreneurial ventures, the MD Consultants network helps physicians unlock new possibilities.
