Darcy graduated with an MD from the University of Toronto in 1995 and was awarded the Cody Silver Medal for the second highest standing in the graduating class and the Herbert Alexander Bruce Medal for Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology, and Surgery.
Subsequently, he served as the Chief Resident in Family Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Darcy completed fellowships in Care of the Elderly and Academic Medicine. From 1999 to 2005, he was a staff physician and the Director of Medical Education at York Community Services, a community health centre in Toronto. He was also a Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and supervised medical students, clerks, and residents in Family Medicine. During his family practice years, he took a special interest in the care of the elderly, palliative care, medical writing, medical editing, and medical education.
Darcy completed a second residency in 2009 in Diagnostic Radiology and is now past Radiologist-In-Chief at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, as well as a radiologist and Quality Advisor at several independent health facilities in the GTA. During his tenure at OSMH, he have developed a new OBSP breast screening program, an NT screening program, a low dose lung cancer CT screening program, a collaborative saline sonohysterogram program, and a CT Colonography program which is used throughout the region. He was honoured to receive the 2011 Physician Clinical Excellence Award at Soldiers’ Hospital.
Darcy is actively involved in Medical education and CME. He is also the Medical director and editor of Healthplexus.net and The Journal of Current Clinical Care, a CME source for Canadian physicians.
He is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Toronto, and consultant Forensic Radiologist at the Forensic Sciences Centre and Coroners’ Complex in Toronto. He had a role in implementing a brand new rotation for senior residents in Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Toronto in Forensic Radiology.
He is experienced in all modalities of imaging, and currently has two academic appointments at the University of Toronto in Family Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging and is currently licensed in Ontario.
