Dr. Isabelle Zheng is a dual Canadian and American board-certified radiologist. She grew up in a small community in Northern Quebec and speaks fluently French, English and Chinese.
Upon graduating from high school with the Governor General’s Academic Medal, she attended Marianopolis College in Montreal, graduating with many distinctions including The Birks Medal for the second-highest standing of the promotion year; The English Department Award for outstanding achievement in English literature; and The Margaret Taussig Award in Biology. She was selected for direct entry to medical school by McGill University without a prior undergraduate degree and was awarded a major entrance scholarship.
She graduated at the top of her class from McGill medical school, receiving the prestigious Holmes Gold Medal, awarded by McGill since 1865, as well as nominations for professionalism, exemplary physicianship and empathy. She went on to complete her residency and fellowship training in Radiology at the University of Toronto and earned the “Best Publication by a Resident” award by the Quebec Radiological Society. Throughout her training, she was actively engaged in research, published several papers and received research grants.
She is experienced with residency interviews, having interviewed at 12 radiology programs across Canada and served on the medical school admission committee of the University of Toronto for 4 years.
She enjoys teaching and has held several leadership roles in education, community service and advocacy so far in her career. Her roles include serving as an elected representative of the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario, being an Ambassador for the Canadian Medical Association, acting as a delegate for Resident Doctors of Canada, serving as a member of the Residency Training Committee and Mock Oral Examiner at the University of Toronto, reviewing the medical curriculum at McGill Faculty of Medicine, and leading several community outreach projects.
Dr. Zheng is passionate about technology and healthcare innovation. As a radiologist, she performs image-guided procedures and works with the latest medical imaging technologies. Her areas of research interest include cutting-edge neurotechnology to help patients with traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors and strokes; emergency and trauma imaging, quality improvement in breast cancer imaging and the use of artificial intelligence in medical imaging.
She is a SHAD Valley alumnus (U Waterloo 2005), a nationally recognized program for young innovators and entrepreneurs in STEM fields. In her free time, she is a digital artist/graphic designer, outdoors lover, avid world explorer, and aspires to follow the footsteps of Anthony Bourdain in Parts Unknown.
