Patrick Duke has been a practicing family physician since 2018. His training was part of the rural family medicine program offered through the University of Calgary. He continues to practice in diverse settings including hospital based work, emergency medicine, palliative care and addictions medicine. He continues to provide work in remote communities including within the Northwest Territories.
He completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science degree where he majored in microbiology with a biology minor. He completed the cooperative education program and conducted initial research projects while working on his undergraduate degree. He completed medical school at the University of Alberta in 2016 where he won multiple awards including the Gold Humanism Honour Society award and the Mewburn memorial medal in Surgery award. He additionally completed multiple research projects with the field of emergency medicine.
In addition to his current work Patrick has provided on-going leadership including being the lead for the Vernon palliative medicine group, the lead addictions medicine physician for Hay River NWT, and current a alcohol use disorder physician champion for several emergency medicine departments within interior BC. He has a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia and teaches medical students and residents in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings.
