Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Dr. Alex Wasserman completed his Kinesiology and Health Sciences degree at York University, after which he worked as a personal trainer in Calgary. He then attended the University of Toronto medical school, graduating in 2016. After five years of subspecialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Manitoba, he pursued further training focused on advanced ultrasound guided diagnostic and interventional procedures in Edmonton, Alberta. He is also a Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists – certified electromyographer.
Dr. Wasserman’s academic interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound’s applications in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, the use of orthobiologics and radiofrequency technology to decrease pain and increase function, as well as electrodiagnostic medicine. He is published in peer reviewed journals through his work in stroke rehabilitation, the application of platelet-rich plasma in various knee disorders, and approaches to novel image-guided interventional pain procedures. He has presented and led numerous provincial and national conferences and workshops regarding ultrasound guided interventions and pain medicine including at the most recent national Canadian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation annual meeting in May of 2025, as well as resident teaching as part of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Calgary. He has also served as a physician advisor and mentor for multiple early stage startup companies in the sports medicine and rehabilitation space.
