Dr. Karim Ramji, MD, MBA, FRCSC, ABOM is a Canadian bariatric surgeon and healthcare innovator dedicated to improving patient care, advancing surgical techniques, and shaping the future of weight-loss surgery. He is a fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon, a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and certified in bariatric surgery by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Ramji completed his general surgery training at the University of Toronto, followed by specialization in bariatric surgery at McMaster University, and earned an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, giving him a unique combination of clinical expertise and strategic insight into healthcare leadership.

At St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Dr. Ramji is recognized for pioneering the same-day discharge program for bariatric patients, which has significantly improved outcomes, patient satisfaction, and recovery times. Additionally, he co-developed an opioid reduction protocol at St. Joseph’s, emphasizing safety, comfort, and evidence-based improvements in perioperative care. These initiatives reflect his commitment to innovation and patient-centered surgical solutions.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Ramji serves as Managing Director of MyLife Bariatrics, where he is advancing same-day, on-demand bariatric surgery, and as clinical lead and co-founder of Phelix AI, a Canadian healthcare technology company focused on automation and artificial intelligence. Through these roles, he combines clinical insight with technological innovation to enhance access, efficiency, and quality of care.
