Manveen Puri is a Partner at MDconsultants and co-founded the company in 2009. Dr. Manveen Puri is a Canadian physician, military medical officer, healthcare entrepreneur, and researcher whose career spans critical care medicine, emergency medicine, operational military healthcare, and healthcare innovation. Through his leadership at MDconsultants, he has helped support healthcare organizations, medical professionals, and healthcare systems with physician-led consulting, strategic healthcare advisory services, and operational expertise.
With extensive training in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Puri has built a multidisciplinary career focused on improving patient outcomes, strengthening healthcare systems, and advancing emergency preparedness in both civilian and military settings. His unique combination of frontline clinical experience, military operational leadership, academic research, and healthcare consulting allows him to contribute valuable insights across multiple areas of modern healthcare.
As a Specialist Medical Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces holding the rank of Major, Dr. Puri provides care for critically ill patients in intensive care units across Toronto while also contributing to military operational medicine and deployment healthcare. His expertise includes trauma medicine, transport medicine, emergency preparedness, critical care operations, and healthcare innovation.
Dr. Puri completed his undergraduate studies at University of Toronto, graduating from New College with a Bachelor of Science degree (HBSc) in 2009. He later earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2013 before completing residency training in Family Medicine and obtaining certification through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) in 2015.
During medical school, Dr. Puri joined the Canadian Armed Forces after a pivotal meeting with the Surgeon General. This decision launched a distinguished military medical career that would later include service as a General Duty Medical Officer, Flight Surgeon, and Dive Medical Officer. His military work has included both domestic operations and international deployments, including deployment to Kuwait in 2019 as part of Operation IMPACT.
Alongside his military responsibilities, Dr. Puri worked extensively as a rural Emergency Physician in underserved communities across Ontario between 2015 and 2021. This experience exposed him to a wide range of complex medical emergencies and strengthened his expertise in emergency response, acute care medicine, and healthcare delivery in resource-limited environments.
In 2020, he achieved certification in Emergency Medicine through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP-EM). Recognized for his leadership and clinical abilities, Dr. Puri was later selected by the military for specialist postgraduate training. In 2021, he returned to the University of Toronto to pursue residency training in Internal Medicine followed by subspecialty fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine, ultimately achieving Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC).
Today, Dr. Puri’s clinical practice focuses on the management of critically ill patients in intensive care units across Toronto as well as military field hospitals during operational deployments. His clinical interests include critical care medicine, trauma medicine, transport medicine, disaster response, operational medicine, and emergency preparedness.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Puri is actively involved in healthcare research and innovation. He is pursuing a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Harvard University, where his research focuses on applying machine learning and advanced analytics to large healthcare datasets. His work aims to improve emergency preparedness, healthcare system resilience, and data-driven healthcare decision-making in both civilian and military healthcare environments.
Beyond medicine and research, Dr. Puri remains deeply engaged in healthcare entrepreneurship and physician leadership. Alongside his work at MDconsultants, he also serves on the board of Medvisory, another company he co-founded. His experience in healthcare consulting includes supporting organizations with medical advisory services, physician engagement, operational strategy, emergency preparedness planning, and healthcare innovation initiatives.
Throughout his career, Dr. Puri has also held numerous leadership and governance roles. At the University of Toronto, he served on the Governing Council from 2011 to 2012 and later became Chief Resident in Family Medicine from 2014 to 2015. His contributions to leadership and service were recognized through awards including the Cressy Award and the Arbor Award.
In 2019, Dr. Puri was promoted to the rank of Major and appointed Deputy Base Surgeon of the 32 Canadian Forces Health Services Centre in Toronto. His leadership experience across healthcare systems, academia, military medicine, and healthcare consulting continues to shape his approach to patient care, operational excellence, and healthcare innovation.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Puri lives in Toronto’s west end with his wife and three children. He enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and maintaining strong connections with his community.
