Shahdi E. Henein’s career spans the complex and demanding field of anesthesiology, marked by significant accomplishments and a dedication to excellence in patient care. Shahdi embarked on his medical journey at Faculty of Medicine, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B., B.Ch) in 1999, followed by a comprehensive internship and residency training.

Shahdi’s professional credentials are impressive, including the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) and certification as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Anesthesiology. His dedication to continuous learning and skill enhancement is evident from his certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) as both a provider and instructor. These certifications underscore his commitment to providing the highest standards of patient care.

In July 2014, Shahdi joined the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta, as an Anesthesiologist, where he has been providing comprehensive perioperative anesthetic care. His leadership skills shone brightly as he took on the role of Medical Director at a surgical centre, overseeing the medical management, staff privileges, and patient safety, further showcasing his versatility in medical administration.

From June 2018 to March 2022, Shahdi served as the Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology and SZ co-lead at Chinook Regional Hospital. In this capacity, he managed departmental affairs, including practice guidelines, scheduling, workforce, and recruitment. His ability to lead during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the application of necessary guidelines within the OR team and collaborating across departments, highlights his adaptability, leadership, and commitment to patient and staff safety.

Throughout his career, Shahdi has been recognized for his contributions to medical education and research. He was awarded for the best research poster by Calgary Anesthesia Residents Research in 2012 and was voted the best teacher by residents of the University of Calgary in 2015/2016. His research interests include topics like the documentation of difficult airway management and the use of low-dose ketamine infusion for analgesia. In addition, always showing great interest in incorporation of technology and ultra sound in the filed of medicine
